Sept 22nd Research Project and Robot Mission Updates

Research Project:

Om and Sankshay listed some 28 Natural Disasters. Team voted to narrow down to any two to focus on and do further research.

1) Hurricanes
2) Volcanoes : Research Document by Om and Sankshay

Must Watch:

Next Week:  Our discussion will be based on above Video. Our research / solution should cover one of following:

- Early Warning
- Shelter
- Rebuilding

Robot Mission:

All the missions are "in-progress", nothing is in completed list yet.

Next Week: Critical progress we must make by next week:

1) Robot Design: We are still having consistency issue,

2) Spend more time on robust design for each mission to achieve accuracy (instead of trying to aim the robot to do certain mission repeatedly).

- Make a zig to fix Robot's starting point
- Think alternate paths if Robot hits some object three out of five runs

Sept 2nd: Winning Robot Design and List of Tasks (Workflow)

Today we designed a robot with low center of gravity and written test cases to test various aspects like consistent turning, speed, turning in speed etc.

Coaches worked on putting all the robot missions on chart  to show the status of each  task. There are total 19-robot missions, so each student will own minimum 2 missions. We have 12 weeks before the Tournament. We also need to start working on research project.

Sept 1st : Winning Robot Design

Today we did brainstorming on “Winning Robot Design” .  Following are ideas/points suggested by FLL team members and coaches:

1) Keep the chassis balanced

2) Top heavy body would make robot unstable

3) Differential Steering System

4) Small wheels / closer to ground (lower center of gravity)

5) Front wheel should be hinged (to achieve precise turn)

6) Make the robot not - bulky (load balancing)

7) Symmetrical sides (load balancing)

8) Train type design (better turns?)

9) Decorate the robot (cool looking robot)

10) User plates to decorate

11) User gears (crane) to complete missions

12) Match servo

13) Robot should have a theme (Animal, etc)
