Weight Machine Mission: (Om and Shivan)

Me and Shivan are working on weighing machine. We are trying to get the
robot completely straight right to the weighing machine. Then after that we programmed the robot to the weighing machine it worked once and that was it.
We did it again and the same result. Now we are determined to get it right the next time we meet!

Medicine Chest: ( Chaitanya, Avi and Sankshay)

We programmed the robot to run over a black line using a light sensor. We attached the color sensor to find which medicine bottle to grab. The arm was made from long extensions to grab the bottle and was made by Chaitanya, to make the robot grab the bottle, first making it look fro green, once found it stops and turns 90 degree on right, next it goes forward for 1 second, then moves motor and go through the hole to grab medicine chest.

Week 6 (Sept 23) , Great Team work

Research Project:

We narrowed down our research project ideas and identified two main subjects:

1) Memory Loss

- Turning Off stove, light, AC, water

- Medicine, 

- Making payments

- Eye glass, phone, pool cleaning

2) Safety

- Robbery

- Traffic Safety from trucks and cars

- Dehydretion

- Fire

- falling 

- Allergy, chemical reaction

Team game

Today we played a game called "blindfold". The objective of the game was to collborate with our teammates. The way we played it was simple, we had 2 people blindfolded and put at the start of the obstacle course. There were 2 teams that told each blindfolded player were to move. We had bowling pins, chairs, tennis balls, And cones. Teams had to work together to not confuse the blindfolded person.

Programming

We programed a robot to pull the weighing machine up. So far, we are almost done programmming this mission. All we have to do to finish, is using the color sensor to indicate a color for the robot to go forward, backward, or stop.

Building

In building we are currently building the second robot. We just started it. In building we finished four bottles of medicine. The robot is still in its starting stages.

Week 5 (Sept 16) , Meeting with Senior Citizens

From "FLL Core Value" team (Rishi and Sankshay) this week:

Today we met with two senior citizens.Their names were Mary and Ed, Mary is 86 year old woman,and Ed is a sport coach for all sports,and only

coaches for winners. Mary is retired and Ed still coaching Young sports enthusiastic.They gave us information about themselves, which helped us on our Research Project.

Research team ( Chaitanya and Sankshay ) noted down following problems faced by seniors:

Mary grew-up and lived in Michigan, she liked water sports and ice skating. She likes sports like base ball and soft ball. In her childhood she did not play video games, watched TV or used cell phones because they were no invented at that time. 

Following are typical problems are faced by senior citizens:

1. Putting fitted sheet on the bed
2. Vacuum Cleaning or cleaning the house
3. Walking a dog
4. Slow reflex / response time
5. Can't play sports
6. Problem seeing
7. Body over hear/ cool (a jacket with heat/cool feature would help)
8. Memory loss : Example: Forget to off the Stove
9. Hearing loss : 
10. Can't drive
11. Bending down / reaching objects
12. Heart disease
13. High blood sugar

Building :

Today we worked on the accessories of the mat.For today we completed the Bowling Pins, half of the Dog Challenge, and some of the Medicine Bottles.We still have to finish some of the accessories on the mat.

 Programming:

Today the programming group started programming the robot for the weighting machine.So far we have  finished the approach to the weighting machine,but not the push on the lever.

Week 4 (Sept 9) , Building Objects of Mission

Two new members - Ankith and Ayush joined this week. Kids had a lot of fun building several missions. Enclosed patio will be permanent place for the table we will build this week.

We need to do more on research part of Senior Citizen challenge. Our last week's senior guest was not feeling good, so she could not come during the coaching session. Parents should encourage kids to talk to their grand parents or an elderly neighbor. The purpose is to talk to them and get to know their lives, ideas to solve some problem will follow if we are in touch with seniors citizens.

Week 3 (Sept 2) , Started working on Challenge

This was an exciting day to understand the challenge and building two items from challenge.

2) Went through research project part of the challenge

Kids had a lot of FUN :-) while building 1) Tipping Platform and 2) Weight Machine.
(Team of Shivan and Chaitanya came up with an innovative solution to keep the platform more stable, we need to check RULEs if it is allowed or not.)

Our team need to partner with a senior citizen (60+), understand their needs and come up with an idea to solve one of their problem.

Each Team member should

1) Talk to their grand parents, seniors in our community, visit senior center

Parents: Please help them to get in touch with seniors in our community. Following is format of request we came up with:

As part of Lego Robotics Club I am working on a research project, as part of the research I wan to identifying needs of senior citizens and come up with innovative ideas to meet some of their needs. Would you mind talking with me and my team?

Please bring a list of seniors you will be meeting this week, note down how you know them.

Next week we will discuss and choose one or two senior citizen from the list (who may be willing to partner with us) and work with them.
